Man hit on Highway 50 in Jefferson City

UPDATE 6/9 2 a.m:ABC17 News called University Hospital who tells our crews that Martin is in critical condition.

ORIGINAL STORY:Police continue to investigate after a man was found lying face down in the westbound lane of Highway 50 in Jefferson City.

Police received 911 calls around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday night of a car wreck. When they arrived, they found John H. Martin of St. Louis in the road with serious injuries.

Witnesses told police they saw Martin fall from the Clark Ave. overpass and right in front of the vehicle that hit him.An officer on the scene told ABC 17 News the driver of the car did not sustain injuries.

Westbound traffic was diverted onto Clark Ave. while officers investigated the scene.

Items, including clothing and leftover medical gear from treating the man were strewn across the road.

Martin was taken to an area hospital, then flown to University Hospital in Columbia.

Police said it was unclear if the fall was intentional or accidental.
