Suspect charged in death of mid-Missouri teenager

ABC 17 News confirmed charges were filed Wednesday in the death of a mid-Missouri teen in late May. Travis Clark, 22, is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree involuntary manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon.

Robert Ashbaugh, 18, died from a single gunshot wound around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, May 28. At the time, the Highway Patrol said Ashbaugh was shot by someone he knows during horseplay with a gun in the 400 block of Railroad Avenue.

Ashbaugh’s father tells ABC 17 News he was a junior at Calvary Lutheran High School in Jefferson City. Friends and family also said Ashbaugh was on the school track and cross country teams and in his free time loved to fish and hunt. Services were just held Sunday, June 5.

Clark is being held in the Moniteau County Jail and will appear before a judge on Tuesday. ABC 17 News has reporters working to get more information about the case.
