Lease approved for Columbia police substation

The Columbia city council approved a new substation for the Columbia Police Department at Monday night’s meeting.

The department will lease a place at Wynwood Townhouses on Aztec Boulevard in northeast Columbia.

The new community outreach unit will also use it as its headquarters.

Police said they hope the new substation will cut down on crime in that part of town.

The building will not have holding cells, which will require officers to transport suspects to its downtown facility.

It will also allow them to cut down on having to drive downtown to write reports.
