An early taste of Summer for all of Mid-Missouri this week
We are 15 days out from Summer, but that doesn’t mean Summer-like temperatures are out of the question. After several days of rainfall that prompted flooding along many of the area rivers, Mid-Missouri is finally going to see a dry and hot pattern settle into the region.
Currently high pressure is situated just to our southwest, this has kept sunny skies in the forecast with limited rainfall. However, as it continues to drift to the south, a cold front will track through Mid-Missouri. The aforementioned cold front will bring Mid-Missouri a reinforcing shot of “cooler” air for the first part of the week beginning Tuesday. There isn’t much in the way of rainfall expected with this front, as high pressure has really shut off moisture transport from the Gulf. Dew points will be sitting in the 50s for Monday evening into Tuesday, so we may see a storm or two become possible.
Behind the cold front is where a Summer-like pattern will settle in. High pressure will build in on the back side of the cold front and gradually shift to the southeast. As it does this, it will strengthen over the eastern 2/3 of the United States. This will bring well above normal temperatures for this time of year. Not only that, but as the ridge strengthens, we can expect to see winds out of the SSW pumping in some Gulf moisture, bringing an increase in moisture.
From Thursday on into the Weekend, highs will be in the low to mid 90s, with heat indices pushing 100 degrees. Although, it’s a far cry from a heat wave, now is the time to remember if you have any plans that involve you being outdoors this weekend, to limit how long you are in the sun. It’s important to always remember to stay hydrated, especially as we head into the heart of Summer.
