Person killed in crash on I-70 identified

Police have released the name of the man who died in a crash on I-70 Wednesday afternoon.

Robert Johnston of Greenview, Illinois was killed in the wreck near mile marker 129 between the 63/70 connector and Lake of the Woods exit.

Columbia Police said traffic began to slow for an unknown reason before four cars were involved in the crash.

Johnston’s vehicle rolled over and he was underneath the car when emergency crews arrived. Responders used airbags to lift the vehicle off him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.His passenger, Mary Johnston, was thrown out of the vehicle. She was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic on I-70 was down to one lane due to the crash. ABC 17 News viewers reported traffic was backed up all the way to Providence Road at one point.
