Domestic fight leads to shootout in Morgan County

A man is in custody facing several charges following a domestic incident and shootout in Gravois Mills Tuesday night.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the domestic disturbance at the Zwanzig trailer park shortly before midnight. As deputies arrived, they reported a man, David Vernon,shooting at them from outside one of the mobile homes.

Deputies shot back as Vernon ran back into the trailer. Authorities then set up a perimeter and closed down traffic on Highway 5. While in the trailer, Vernon allegedly fired several more shots at deputies while refusing to come out.

After some time, deputies shot canisters of tear gas into the trailer, prompting Vernon to come out. Deputies arrested him after a brief fight.

Vernon is being held without bond and faces multiple charges including three counts of first degree assault of law enforcement and armed criminal action.
