Deputies: man tased after pointing rifle in the woods

ABC 17 News confirmed a man is charged with five felonies, after deputies saw a laser in the woods, only to discover it was a rifle pointed right at them.

The Camden County sheriff’s office was investigating a stealing case Thursday in the 400 block of Roofener Road in the Branch area of Macks Creek. After seeing a green laser beam next to the house, they thought it could be someone in need trying to get their attention.

Deputies say they shined a spotlight and found Ronald Burkhart, 61, who asked what they were doing at his friend’s home. After several commands, they say Burkhart put down the rifle but continued approaching and said he had another gun. Officials claim they used a taser to arrest him, before finding a pistol in his back pocket.

Burkhart is being held without bond before he is due in court June 28.
