Gov. Nixon declares state of emergency following storms

Governor Nixon declared a state of emergency Friday after recent and incoming storms in Missouri.

The governor made the declaration in preparation for more flooding.ABC 17 News was on the scene when severe storms moved through Marshall Thursday night, leaving damage to trees, cars and street lamps.

“Areas along the Missouri River and its tributaries in west-central Missouri are of particular concern because more rain could cause some levees to overtop,” Gov. Nixon said. “State emergency management personnel will continue to work with local officials and law enforcement to assess and closely monitor the risk to the levees, and take appropriate action if needed.”

Governor Nixon reminded people to never drive in flooded areas.
