Albert-Oakland pool opens for Memorial Day
Columbia Parks and Recreation crews were out Thursday morning cleaning up and preparing the Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center for Memorial Day swimmers.
“It takes a lot of work to be honest. The maintenance department they’ve actually been out here working on different things, getting the pools up, getting the water balanced for quite awhile,” Janel Twehous with Parks and Recreation said.
Albert-Oakland is the first pool to open in Columbia. Douglass Family Aquatic Center, Lake of the Woods pool and Little Mates Cove will open June 3.
Parks and Recreation administrators said the amount of business over the holiday weekend depends on the weather. They said the swimming season hits its peak in June and July. The pools close on Labor Day.
“We want it to be a family facility, but also of course, our ultimate goal is a safe aquatic facility for them to come visit,” Twehous said.
