Columbia driver recovering following serious accident on Highway 63

A Columbia driver is recovering following Tuesday’s serious crash on Highway 63.

According to the Columbia Police Department, a semi truck going north lost traction near Route B, slid across the median, and into the southbound lanes. That’s where it hit an Acura SUV head-on. The driver of that SUV, Shawn McCoy, had to be cut out of the SUV, and was taken to University Hospital with arm, leg, and facial injuries. The semi truck driver was not hurt.

The crash shut down southbound traffic on 63 for about 90 minutes. MoDOT workers were called to the scene to help clean up debris and fuel.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
