Heavy traffic expected for graduation weekend

The University of Missouri is urging drivers to avoid campus this weekend as graduation ceremonies will be happening until Sunday night.

Graduation ceremonies are being held at the Hearnes Center, Jesse Hall, and Mizzou Arena. The Hearnes Center and Mizzou Arena are near the Providence Road and Stadium Drive intersection.

Saturday ceremonies will at the Mizzou Arena at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., and 7 p.m. There will be a ceremony at the Hearnes center at 4 p.m. And Jesse Hall will have a 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Sunday ceremonies will be at the Hearnes Center at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., Jesse Hall at 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., and at the Mizzou Arena at 3:30 p.m.

MUPD say they will have extra police out patrolling the area.

MoDOT says they will continue to do light construction on Rangeline, but nothing to impact driver traffic.

ORIGINAL STORY: Three streets near the Mizzou campus will be turned into one-way streets to make it easier for students to move out of their dorms. At the same time, thousands of students will be attending graduation ceremonies around campus starting Friday afternoon.

On Thursday and Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Hitt Street between Rollins and Lake will be for southbound traffic only. Virginia Avenue between Lake and Rollins will be for northbound traffic only. And Rollins Street between Virginia and Hitt will be for westbound traffic only.

On Friday, Rollins Street between East Campus Dr and College avenue will be for westbound traffic only.

According to the University, these are the only streets near dorms that will be temporarily turned into one-ways during the move-out days. However, MU is urging drivers to avoid the area if possible since they expect heavy traffic around campus.
