Patient thanks troopers for life-saving medicine
An 18-year-old woman is alive thanks, in part, to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Thursday , the patient and her family got to meet some of those troopers at MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The hospital’s executive director presented the troopers with a Community Hero Recognition in gratitude of their willingness to help her.
The patient, from Camdenton, was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit over the Easter holiday weekend, but needed a very specific medication.During her treatment, doctors ran out of it.
After searching the region for the medicine, some was found in Kansas City. A trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol picked up the medication from Children’s Mercy and relayed it with five troopers to Columbia.
The patient was able to go home a few days later.
The pediatric intensive care staff that called on the Highway Patrol for assistance was also on hand to thank the troopers Thursday.
