Mid-Missourians react to Cruz suspending campaign

Ted Cruz announced on Tuesday night after the Indiana primaries that he is suspending his campaign.

Trump’s win tonight gives him a big boost towards reaching the more than 1,200 delegates needed to win the nomination. Donald Trump applauded Cruz’s decision. “This has been an amazing evening, I didn’t expect this.. I didn’t expect it. What Ted did is a really brave thing to do, a great thing to do, because we want to bring unity to the Republican party.”

ABC 17 asked several local Columbia republicans about the Cruz campaign suspension. One resident told ABC 17 that they found this campaign season a very interesting one. Another resident told ABC 17 that he believes a lot of Republicans would back up Trump in the general election.

Representative Chuck Basye told ABC 17 that ” he is disappointed that Senator Cruz is suspending his presidential campaign. However, I will support the eventual republican nominee.”

When Heidi Cruz made her way to Columbia during the Missouri primaries she made it clear to ABC 17 that the Cruz campaign was in the election till the end.

At the time of the rally in Columbia ABC 17 asked Cruz supporters if they would support the GOP nominee if it was Donald Trump, and some supporters said they would, but some were hesitant.
