Crews prepare to close Missouri River Bridge

This weekend, crews are getting ready to close the westbound Missouri River bridge, heading into Jefferson City.

Friday night, crews set up the barricades that will facilitate the westbound traffic onto the eastbound bridge. However, the full closure won’t happen until early next week.

On Saturday and Sunday , the crews will be setting up the new lanes, restriping, and placing barricades.

As of Saturday morning, eastbound drivers only have access to the left hand and middle lanes of traffic. Westbound drivers have access to all lanes of traffic. According to MoDOT, at 7 p.m. Saturday , eastbound traffic will be restricted to the right hand lane.

There are also closures and detours for drivers attempting to get onto the bridge. According to MoDOT, access ramps from Route 54/63 to and from West Main Street are closed. Also, the eastbound on-ramp from McCarty St. to Route 54/63 and the westbound on-ramp from Route W to Route 54/63.

MoDOT encourages drivers to expect delays and factor in extra drive time. They say the first day of the closures, they’ll be monitoring traffic flow, as well as traffic signals on surrounding city streets and state highways to make sure traffic is moving as smoothly as possible.
