Boys and Girls Clubs expanding 7th street location

Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbia are hoping to fundraise $2.5 million to expand their 7th street location in central Columbia.

The main expansion project will target more junior high and high school students.

Some projects include adding a inside gym, recording studio, larger cafeteria, and basketball court. The Executive Director, Valorie Livingston said the current location just doesn’t have enough programs and space for older students. The Boys and Girls Clubs say this will only benefit the community and to encourage students of all ages to stay of the streets.

The main facility on 7th street is hoping to add a additional 14,000 square feet.

The location has already raised $1 million, and hopes to raise the remainder of the $2.5 million by the end of the year.

The Boys and Girls Clubs currently serve 42,000 meals and serve about 700 children at their four locations in Columbia. The center is hoping to double that with the new expansion.
