Court documents say 63/70 connector shooting suspect associated with gang members

UPDATE: Court documents say one of the three suspects charged in connection to a shooting near the connector in Columbia Monday is associated with well known gang members.

ABC 17 picked up the probable cause statements Wednesday morning for suspects Joseph Luckett, Lajuan Martin, and Johnathan Banks.

The documents say a a woman and man got into a confrontation with Banks at the Boone County Courthouse. They say during that confrontation Banks threatened to kill the victims and told them they would not make it through the day.

The court documents say after leaving the courthouse, Banks and Luckett found the victims driving near the connector and say both men then started shooting at the victims.

According to the documents, the female victim suffered an injury to her leg and the male victim suffered an injury to his face. They say the victims identified Luckett and Banks as the men who shot at them. The victims also identified Martin as the person driving the suspect vehicle.

Court documents say officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1500 of Sylvan Lane just before 8, when they noticed several people outside a residence.

They say officers recognized the two men as suspects in the connector shooting and tried to arrest Martin and Luckett. Both men apparently resisted arrest and court documents say Martin swung his fists at the officers trying to arrest him.

Court documents say officers believe Martin is a danger to the public because he commonly associates with well known gang members and has been associated with weapons activity.

UPDATE: Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight filed charges against all three suspects late Tuesday afternoon.

Knight filed four felony charges against each of them, including two felony counts of unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action. Luckett was further charged with resisting arrest, while Knight said Martin was charged with interfering with an arrest. Both are classified as Class D felonies.

Judge Kevin Crane took Knight’s recommendation, and set a $500,000 cash only bond for all three. Luckett, Martin and Banks could appear in court as early as Wednesday. A clerk in the criminal division said since charges were filed so late in the day, information like probable cause statements and Knight’s reasoning behind his bond request would be available Wednesday morning.
