Smoke prompts evacuation at Lincoln University building

Smoke in the basement of a building at Lincoln University prompted a brief evacuation Friday morning. At around 8:30,firefighters from the Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at Dawson Hall, a residential hall at the school.

LU Public Safety officials had found smoke in the basement and on the tenth floor, and evacuated all people inside. Firefighters discovered the smoke came from a malfunctioning motor in the heating and cooling system.

Everyone was allowed back in after about 30 minutes. No damage or injuries were reported.
