Sedalia man hospitalized for serious injuries after head-on crash overnight

A Sedalia man was in the hospital Wednesday in fair condition after a crash in Pettis County.

It happened just before 12:30 Wednesday morning at Highway65 just south of Mather Road.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said 55-year-old Paul Chittum was driving northbound in the southbound lane when he was struck by another vehicle head-on.

Both drivers then went off the west side of the road after the crash.

The crash report says Chittum was taken to University Hospital in Columbia in serious condition. The other driver was no hurt.

It said both people involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

ABC 17 News called University Hospital Wednesday morning. Officials said Chittum is now in fair condition.
