New owners talk future for old St. Mary’s Hospital building

St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City moved to its new facility in 2014. Its old building on Missouri Boulevard was sold in 2015.

Right now, there are no redevelopment plans filed, and the old hospital remains empty and closed off.

The building has been a fixture in the Capitol City for more than a century. It was built in 1904, and, it’s because of that longevity, developers with Farmer Holding Company say, they aim to do all they can to “renovate and make use of the existing structure.”

It’s still unclear how those efforts will manifest. Today, ABC 17 News reached out to Farmer Holding Company, the new owners, to get a better understanding of how they plan to redevelop the site.

They say they are looking at all possible avenues to get the most effective use out of the property.

Rob Kingsbury with Farmer Holding Company said, “One thing that everyone can agree on is they want to see that property in its best condition and we’re currently working hard to determine how best to go about to return it to its best condition.”

The property consists of more than 11 acres and includes the hospital building, an office building and a more than 800-space parking structure.

The new property owners say they are hopeful the property will attract an out-of-state enterprise to Jefferson City.
