Man charged, accused of crashing into police officer’s patrol car

A Jefferson City man was charged Tuesday after allegedly crashing into a Jefferson City police officer’s patrol car while drunk.

Sulaimaan Habeel is charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a crash and resisting arrest.

ABC 17 News obtained court documents that claim Habeel struck the patrol vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Madison street on March 26 while the officer was sitting inside.

The impact reportedly caused the suspect’s side mirror to fall off. Investigators say Habeel continued to drive away.

The officer pulled Habeel over shortly after and smelled alcohol coming from the suspect’s car.

Court documents say the officer tried arresting Habeel, but he pulled away and began actively resisting arrest. The officer used pepper spray, but Habeel continued to resist arrest. Eventually, officers used a taser and were then able to place the suspect in handcuffs.

Habeel’s arraignment is scheduled for April 26 in Cole County.
