Cole County voters say yes to Prop A

Cole County voters countywide have voted in favor of Proposition A, which will extend the sales tax for five years. 5,254 voted in favor, 1393 voted against.

Proposition A will extend the sales tax for five years. Supporters say it will be used to construct new roads, rehabilitate existing roads and bridges, replace bridges and upgrade existing gravel roads.

Cole County voters first approved the tax in 1986 and during those 30 years, six major bridges have been replaced and 178 miles of gravel roads have been upgraded to asphalt.

There have been two major thoroughfare improvements, and hundreds of miles of asphalt and chip seal overlays. There have also been 15 cooperative projects with Jefferson City.
