Bridge permanently shutting down over Moniteau Creek
A bridge is now closing for good in northern Cole County. The county’s public works department just announced on Friday it is permanently shutting off parts of Moniteau Creek Road. It is east of Jamestown near the Missouri River, about 30 minutes northwest of Jefferson City.
MoDot notified the agency the structure needs immediate, critical repairs based on a recent inspection.
It only sees about 20 cars a day after Highway 179 was built as an alternate route over Moniteau Creek in 1967. Officials say because of this bypass, it would not make sense to pay for a replacement.
