City of Ferguson hires new police chief

A member of the Miami, Florida police department has been hired to be the new police chief in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson.

Major Delrish Moss will take over the department, which was heavily scrutinized and criticized following the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in 2014. Darren Wilson, the former Ferguson officer who shot Brown, was not charged in the incident, leading to destructive riots in the community.

According to WPLG, the ABC News affiliate in Miami, Moss started working with the Miami Police Department in 1984 as a public service aide. He was scheduled to retire from the department there later this year.
