Severe weather brings home repair scams

COLUMBIA, Mo- The Boone County Sheriff’s department issued a release today warning homeowners to be wary of door-to-door scammers.

With severe weather approaching, con artists knock on doors using multiple high pressure sales tactics. They may claim an existing condition poses a safety risk, or that they only have a “special price deal for today only” for their work.

Many of the scammers come from out of town and specifically target the elderly.

President of Precision Construction, Jim Pellock says homeowners should find home improvement references from their friends and family and look for reputable local businesses.

Pellock also says that his contractors never go door to door, “Most of our clients come from referrals, that’s the highest percentage of opportunities we get to visit with someone.”

Homeowners should never pay the full amount for a job until its completed with satisfaction.
