Two arrested after fight with a gun in Columbia
A man and woman have been arrested more than week after a fight at a Columbia gas station, during which someone pulled out a gun.
The fight happened on March 15 at the Petro Mart on St. Charles Road. According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, the fight involved two groups of people whose children had been in a previous fight.
Video surveillance from the Petro Mart showed a person, identified by deputies as Kalinda Carpenter, showing a gun in a threatening manner. Several store display shelves were also knocked over during the fight.
When the fight ended, both groups left in separate vehicles, and deputies say Carpenter followed the other group’s vehicle onto Grace Lane, south of I-70. That’s where Micah McElmurry, a passenger in Carpenter’s vehicle, allegedly shot at the other vehicle, hitting a rear taillight.
Both vehicles had children inside at the time of the shooting; none of the children or others in the vehicles were hurt.
Deputies arrested Carpenter and McElMurry on March 23 at a home in Centralia.
McElmurry, 23, and Carpenter, 31, faces charges of armed criminal action, assault, unlawful use of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child, property damage, and peace disturbance.
