Escaped inmate might have left area in stolen car

ABC 17 News has learned the search for missing inmate could be over in mid-Missouri, after a car was stolen late Monday night in Mt. Sterling, about 40 minutes east of Jefferson City. That is where troopers used a helicopter to look for Jason Mills on Saturday.

The Gasconade County sheriff’s office also had extended patrols this weekend near Kings Highway and River Road. The department later confirmed a car was reported missing between 10:30 and 11 p.m. Monday. So far, it has not been found.

Mills and another man, Adam Moore, escaped 11 days ago from the Madison County jail in eastern Missouri, while they were getting transferred to prison.

Moore was caught later that same night.
