Fireworks to blame for MU alert overnight

University of Missouri officials said reports of gun shots near campus Sunday night turned out to be fireworks.

MU sent an alert to students about a reported shooting near Providence Avenue and Steward Roadjust before midnight Sunday.

MUPD released an update at 12:05 Monday stating Police had determined the gunshots heard near the Mizzou campus were fireworks.

The alert said an investigation determined the area was safe.
