Man arrested for taking woman at gunpoint, leaving kids home alone
Boone County prosecutors have filed charges against a Columbia man accused of taking a woman at gunpoint, leaving kids home alone, and threatening violence against his family.
According to court documents, police responded to an assault call shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday. The caller had indicated over the phone that Kevin Bonner, 28, of threatening her with a gun the day before.
When officers arrived, the victim told them Bonner grabbed a gun and chambered a round before forcing her to leave with him. In doing so, Bonner allegedly left four kids, between the ages of one and six, at home without supervision.
After leaving, Bonner allegedly pointed the gun at the victim’s head and said they were going to his sister’s house, where he planned to kill his sister, her husband, the victim, and himself. During the drive, the victim claims Bonner fired his gun into the air through the sunroof.
Police say statements made by Bonner after his arrest support the victim’s claims, and that during questioning Bonner admitted to sometimes doing “stupid things like that.”
Bonner is currently in the Boone County jail; his cash-only bond has been set at $100,000.
