Section of Scott Boulevard back open after crash
A crash had Scott Boulevard between Brookview Court and Brookview Terrace closed for several hours Wednesday afternoon. The closure affected both north and southbound traffic south of Grant Lane.
A car ran into a utility pole, breaking it in half. The woman driving the car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Over 410 people lost power because of the accident, but should have service returned within a couple of hours.
ABC 17 News looked into crash history for the past five years on Scott Boulevard.
According to data collected by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 75 crashes have happened on that stretch of road between 2011 and 2015, including four fatalities and 28 injury crashes.
The data shows about one-fourth of the crashes happened along a bend where Broadway Boulevard turns into Scott Boulevard.
In 2015, there were at least 20 crashes that required an investigation by law enforcement and seven of those involved injuries.
In the past, many residents along Scott Boulevard have expressed concerns over the speeding drivers.
At this time, it’s unclear if speed played a role in Wednesday’s afternoon crash. The Columbia Police Department is investigating.
