Police arrest 2 in connection to armed robbery in south Columbia
UPDATE: Demarqeyan Mobely and Quincy Hines have been charged for the armed burglary on Dunhill Way. Hines and Mobely are going to be tried for robbery in the first degree and armed criminal action. Mobely is also charged with burglary in the first degree.
This comes after Columbia police arrested the two men in connection to an armed robbery in south Columbia. Police said they responded to reports of a suspicious person on Business Loop 70 near Hickman High School Monday around 11 a.m. They said they were able to locate the men and conducted a traffic stop.The stop temporarily put Hickman High School on lock down.
The police recieved the call from a local pawn shop owner. The men were trying to sell a diamond ring to the shop.
The worker recognized the ring as the one from a missing report filed from the Dunhill homeowners.
Police were called to the 1600 block of Dunhill Way for a report of an armed robbery just after 10 p.m. Saturday night.
Police said a man followed the residents through an open garage door as they returned home. The suspect then showed a gun and demanded their valuables.
After the suspect had their phones and other items, he took off on foot.
The responding CPD K9 was able to track down the phones nearby,
CPD said the victims weren’t hurt during the robbery.
However, the victims were shook up over the incident and do not wish to comment. Neighbors say they are worried about their own safety and will be making sure to lock their doors every day.
Police said during the stop they also located a gun in the vehicle that was reported stolen from a burglaryon March 9 in the 3000 block of Old Highway 63 South. Police then detained all three men in the vehicle. However they later released the third person.
Police said further questioning lead them to arrest Hines and Mobley in connection to the Dunhill robbery.
