Officials confirm human remains belonged to autistic teen
On Thursday investigators confirmed remains found in Phelps County officially belonged to a boy who had autism. Johnathan Shay, 13, was reported missing July 9 in St. James, Mo. He had left with a friend who was found shortly after without Shay.
After an extensive search, human remains were discovered on February 21 on a nearby property by Dry Fork Creek.
The Boone County medical examiner’s office and Phelps County coroner worked with a forensic anthropologist and dentist, who made the confirmation late Wednesday.
Their examination will continue in order to find a cause and circumstances surrounding his death.
