House fire near elementary school

Columbia Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

The fire is on the 1400 block of Sir Barton Road, near Derby Ridge Elementary School.

When crews arrived, the home was fully involved and two cars in the front of the home were on fire.

Firefighters put out the blaze within about 20 minutes, according to the Columbia Fire Department.

A Columbia Police officer on scene told ABC 17 News another officer in the area saw the fire and called it in. She said everyone inside the home made it out safely. No one was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The fire heavily damaged the home, Columbia firefighters said. Two adults and three children were in the home at the time of the fire, but made it out safely.

The assistant fire marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. There is no damage estimate at this time.
