Bill would rename part of Audrain Co. road in memory of fallen trooper

A public hearing on a bill to rename part of an Audrain County road wrapped up in Jefferson City Monday.

“We are honoring James’ service to the state of Missouri. He gave his life, he chose to obey and fulfill his oath of office that day,” said Alice Bava, the mother of Highway Patrol Trooper James Bava.

Bava was killed last August when his car crashed off Highway FF in Audrain Co.

The bill would designate part of Highway FF as the “Trooper James Bava Memorial Highway.”

The motorcyclist involved in a chase with Bava is charged with second degree murder in the case.

Officials granted Serghei Comerzan a change of venue on Friday, moving his case to Montgomery County.
