MU Fraternity apologizing for vulgar email

A member of the Alpha Gamma Rho is apologizing for a vulgar email he sent to his fraternity brothers about a MU sorority.

The email was sent from the sophomore’s school account, talking about the fraternity’s Greek Week pairing, Pi Beta Phi.

The email was screen-shotted and passed around social media. Multiple MU organizations responded to the email.

The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Cathy Scroggs, called the email “disgusting” and “degrading to women”. She said the investigation is being handled by the Office for Civil Rights and Title IX. The results from the investigation will determine the consequences for the parties involved.

The Greek Week Steering Committee also commented on the issue. They say as Greek students, they have to hold each other accountable and strive to live up to their values. The committee says the degrading email is not being taken lightly and is not condoned by their organization.

Alpha Gamma Rho also released a statement about their member’s email. They said they called an emergency meeting after seeing the vulgar email. AGR says they’re sorry for the action of this member and it is not he culture they endorse. AGR says one of their charities is True North, which supports women who have been subject to abuse.

According to MU’s Title IX office, from August 2014 to July 2015 they received more than 300 people who allegedly experienced sexual discrimination.
