Two teens charged with burglaries in south Columbia neighborhood

Columbia police arrested two teens Wednesday on suspicion of breaking into homes and cars in a south Columbia neighborhood. ABC 17 talked to a sergeant on the scene, who says a couple of homes and a car were broken into. Officers caught the suspects in the act, who took them on a short chase.

Austin Cash, 18, and Mathew Curry, 18, were both charged Thursday with two counts of first degree burglary and first degree property damage.

CPD got the call just before 7 o’clock Wednesday morning from a resident in the 1100 block of La Rail Drive who stated they saw a suspicious person on their back deck and took off running.

A Boone County K9 was able to track the men to a home in the 1100 block of Northshore Drive.

A search warrant lead officers to the items that were stolen from two homes on La Rail Drive. Police say Cash and Curry also broke into a car on Northshore Drive.

Both Cash and Curry admitted their involvement in the burglaries and theft while being interviewed by detectives. They are both in the Boone County Jail each with a $75,000 bond.
