MU med school dean back on the job 5 months later

Interim MU Chancellor Hank Foley confirmed the med school’s dean is returning to the job after unexpectedly stepping down five months ago.

Former MU Chancellor Bowen Loftin did not provide an explanation when Patrice Delafontaine left last September. Loftin himself left his position less than a month later on November 9.

Delafontaine first came to Columbia in December 2014 from Tulane University, where he was the chief of cardiology. His resignation took effect immediately less than a year later when it became public September 14, 2015.

The chairman of orthopaedic surgery filled in as an interim leader.
