Crashes reported on two Boone County highways

Emergency crews responded to a pair of vehicle crashes on highways in Boone County early Tuesday.

The first was reported on Highway 22 at Schunemeyer Road, between Sturgeon and Centralia. According to Missouri Highway Patrol, 23 year old Josh Kirkbride was driving east on Hwy 22 when his truck slid off the road, into a field, hitting a fence. Kirkbride was taken to Moberly Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Troopers say he was wearing his seat belt.

The second crash is on Highway VV at Rocky Fork Creek north of Columbia. Crews had to cut the driver, 63 year old James Carrico, out of his truck. Crews say he was conscious and talking as they put him in an ambulance. According to Missouri Highway Patrol, Carrico had minor injuries and was wearing his seat belt.. That scene was cleared shortly before 6 a.m.

Boone County Sheriff’s Deputies told ABC 17 News an icy bridge on Highway VV was the likely cause of the accident, in addition to the rain creating slick roads. Deputies called MoDOT to salt to the bridge.
