Jefferson City Council to vote on increasing airport construction funds

The Jefferson City Council is set to meet Monday night to vote on increasing funds for construction at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport.

If approved, the amendment would add nearly $40,000 to the construction budget.

The current grant from MoDOT for runway and lighting improvements is at $6.2 million.

The council is also set to vote on authorizing a solid waste services contract with Allied Services.

Council members could also vote on a bill regarding the ordinance for housing animals outside.

The city’s animal control division receives numerous calls this time of year from those reporting dogs tied up outside.

Under the proposed bill, if animal control gets a call about a dog that is in life-threatening conditions, the division can take action. Workers would contact the owner about the violation or take possession of the animal if the owners aren’t home.

The dog would remain in the pound until the owner came to retrieve it.

“I think its the human thing to do and it’s also going to protect property rights in the same fashion. We got serious citizen information that led us to change it, and I think it’s in good shape. I intend to have it voted on tonight,” said Rick Mihalevich with the Jefferson City Council.
