Body found near a Columbia creek identified

UPDATE: Body identified by investigators. Autopsy performed.

Investigators have identified a body pulled out of a Columbia creek last week.

CPD officers said the man is 38-year-old Levi Edward Monie-Turnbow.

An autopsy performed on Monie-Turnbow showed no signs of physical injury. However, as of Monday, officers are still waiting for the results of a toxicology report.

UPDATE: Police do not suspect foul play after a body is pulled from a Columbia creek.

Police took the man’s body from the area just after 6:00 p.m. Friday.

Public Information Officer Latisha Stroer said the department had not yet contacted the man’s family about his death. Officer Stroer did not release the name or age of the victim, but said the department did not believe the circumstances around the man’s death were suspicious as of Friday night.

Lt. Geoff Jones told ABC 17 News officers came to the scene under the Highway 63 bridge near Clark Lane around 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Crime scene investigators took photos in the area near Hinkson Creek and Interstate 70.

Lt. Jones was unsure how long the body may have been in the area.Neither a name or age has been provided.

ORIGINAL STORY, 3:40 p.m.: ABC 17 News has confirmed a man’s body was found near Hinkson Creek Friday afternoon.

Columbia Police told ABC 17 they responded to the area under the Highway 63 bridge near Clark Lane.

The Columbia Police Forensic Unit arrived shortly after 4:00 p.m.
