Large water pipe breaks in north Columbia
ABC 17 News confirms only a few customers will be affected by a 12″ water main break Wednesday in north Columbia.
The city’s Water & Light department said crews will turn off valves near Northland Drive and Blue Ridge Road in order to isolate the problem, and once that is done, pressure issues for most homes should be resolved.
A handful of people near the scene might be without water for four to six hours, before facing a precautionary boil advisory for the next 24 hours.
Officials say changing conditions, including temperatures and precipitation levels often cause problems for pipes in the area’s clay soil.
