Threat for Thunderstorms Tuesday
A warm front will lift in the morning on Tuesday bringing a thunderstorm chance, after 12AM. Western Missouri could see thunderstorms at this time, while storms look to move in near HWY 65 from 3AM-5AM, and US 63 from 5AM-7AM. Counties east of HWY 54 look to see thunderstorms start up from 7AM-9AM. Take a look at the Thunderstorm Start Up Time.
Areas south of HWY 50 look to have the greatest instability, and shear (increasing winds with height). Both ingredients are needed for thunderstorm development, while the severe threat looks low in Mid-Missouri. Areas south and east of I-44 are under a Marginal (low) risk for severe storms, and areas towards the boot heel of Missouri are under a slight risk.
Thunderstorms look to end north of I-70 from 9AM-10AM leaving .20″ to .40″ of total rainfall for areas south of I-70, and .40″ to .80″ north. There will be a lot of dry time on Tuesday afternoon. Areas south of I-70 look to stay dry after morning storms. We’ll watch slight chance for a wintry mix mainly north of I-70 from 7PM-11PM Tuesday night as a cold front moves in, bringing cloud cover, along with rain and wet snow to the counties of Chariton, Howard, Randolph, Macon, Monroe, and Audrain. Accumulation is not expected on Tuesday night. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on twitter.
