Lincoln University students organize water drive for Flint residents

A Mid-Missouri man is making it his mission to help those affected by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

Tyrone Coleman Jr. and students at Lincoln University in Jefferson City are spreading the work about the Missouri-to-Michigan water drive.

Flint’s water supply was deemed undrinkable after unsafe levels of lead were discovered.

A semi truck and trailer donation will allow the volunteers to move bottled water and other supplies to that community.

“We were just going to run it for a week but because of the generosity of our community, with people like Mallard Family Racing and some other entities within the community we decided to extend it for a month. So, we are going to run through February 27 and then we will actually load this truck up on February 27 and head out to Flint so we can deliver the water,” said Misty Young, the Director of University Relations at LU.

The City of Jefferson, Blue Skillet, and LU all established drop off locations for water.
