Blood drive held in memory of fallen CPD officer

Columbia Emergency Services honored a fallen Columbia Police officer on Friday with an annual blood drive.

The 6th annual Molly Bowden blood drive was held at Grace Bible Church on Blue Ridge Road.

The blood drive was a way to memorialize Bowden, who was killed in the line of duty in 2005.

Her father, David Thomas, said, “Blood is life. Without blood there is no life. This is what got it started and we decided to keep it going and it’s been okay. A lot of people participate and we’re grateful and thankful.”

Bowden was shot while working a traffic stop on Nifong Blvd. in South Columbia and died weeks later from her injuries.
