Road crews preparing for Tuesday snowfall
Some parts of Mid-Missouri could see up to five inches of snow after a storm system moves through the region beginning early Tuesday afternoon.
Both Columbia and Jefferson City Public Works officials said road crews will be fully staffed to monitor and maintain road conditions.
Britt Smith, the Operations Division Director with Jefferson City Public Works, said 23 snow plows will be on the streets tomorrow.
The ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team is tracking a system that is expected to last until late Tuesday night. Areas near Columbia and Jefferson City are expected to pick up 3-4 inches of snow.
Smith said the public works department will have a small back-up crew overnight to continue monitoring roads and a full crew will be back Wednesday morning. He said crews worry about equipment failures in cold temperatures, which remain in effect Tuesday night.
Columbia Public Works will also have a full crew working to clear the roads Tuesday.
Officials are reminding residents who live along first and second priority snow routes to move their vehicles off the roads tomorrow to allow crews to work as quickly as possible.
