Early morning crash leaves one dead in Chariton County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated a fatal car crash near Lake Nehai Tonkayea, just north of Keytesville, around 5:30 Saturday morning.

According to the crash report, Christopher Cunningham, 46, of Brookfield, was traveling northbound on Lake Drive and John Clark Drive when he drove off the right side of the road and hit a tree.

Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene. The Highway Patrol said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
