Weekend arctic air and light snow chance

A cold weather pattern is setting up for Friday through Tuesday as the upper level winds shift to the northwest, sending much colder air into Mid-Missouri behind two cold fronts. The first front moves through by Friday morning, leaving us in the 30s during the day Friday with wind chills in the 20s under mostly cloudy skies.

Temperatures will fall into the lower 20s by Saturday morning under partly cloudy skies. We will stay dry through Saturday with high temperatures in the lower 30s with wind chill readings in the teens to lower 20s during the day as northwesterly winds decrease.

Another wave of low pressure is forecast to move in Saturday night, sending another surge of arctic air into the area. As a cold front moves in, light snow is possible from 4 AM near HWY 24 to the I-70 corridor by 6 AM, moving southeast and out of Mid-Missouri by late morning. The best chance of accumulating snow will occur north of a Kansas City to Jefferson City line with a dusting to an inch of snow. Higher amounts of an inch to two inches are possible north of HWY 24.

Sunday looks bitterly cold with high temperatures only near 20 and wind chills starting off just below zero and staying in the single digits during the day with northerly winds at 10-15 mph.
