Man arrested in Columbia burglary after SWAT team searches home

A man has been arrested following a burglary in the 4000 block of Sidewinder Drive.

David Reed, 48, was arrested on Thursday just after 7 p.m. on four counts of Unlawful for Certain Persons to Possess a Concealable Firearm with a total bond of $18,000.00, Burglary in the Second Degree with a bond of $4,500.00 and Felony Receiving Stolen Property with a bond of $4,500.00.

We checked with the Boone County Prosecutors office and charges are currently under review.

Thursday afternoon, officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Sidewinder Drive in reference to a burglary in progress.

The suspect, David Reed, fled the scene and entered a nearby vehicle, which officers tracked to the 5700 block of Rocky Fort Drive.The Columbia Police SWAT team was also asked to assist with a search warrant at 5723 Rocky Fork Drive due to the fact that Reed is known to be armed and dangerous.

Reed appeared to have been hiding inside the attic of the residence and proceeded to enter the neighbor’s garage from the attic where he was apprehended by detectives.

While searching the residence, officers located the items stolen from the home on Sidewinder Driveas well as electronics that were reported stolen after a burglary that occurred between 12/18/15 and 12/21/15 at 900 Rain Forest Parkway, Boone Hospital Center.

Officers also uncovered one firearm in Reed’s car as well as three firearms in the home, two of which were the suspect’s.

Reed is a convicted felon, who did a stint in prison following a 2005 conviction for second-degree burglary.

He was released on parole in 2012.
