City council could require sprinklers in frats and sororities

The Columbia City Council will hold its first meeting of the New Year tonight at 7 p.m.

There are three main items on the agenda, including two votes as well as the swearing-in of Steven Sapp as Columbia’s Director of Community Relations.ABC17 News crews will be attending the meeting.

The City Council will vote on a bill that would require all fraternity and sorority houses to install an automatic fire sprinkler system.

They will also hold a public hearing and vote on a proposal to make improvements to the Albert-Oakland aquatic facility.

The $80,000 project would be funded by park tax.
