Flood cleanup continues along Osage River
Flood cleanup continues for homeowners living along the banks of the Osage River Friday.
The flood waters made a mess of a neighborhood off Highway 50/63 just south of Jefferson City.
The Osage has receded over the past few days as skies began to dry out, but it left behind a lot of cleanup for residents in the area.
Residents said they measured multiple feet of standing water in their basements.
The water went far past the floating docks, hitting the back doors of homes, and in many cases flooding basements.
The Osage River looked full on Friday, but for the most part the water had receded back below its bank.
However, signs of flood water were all around the area.
Homeowners’ river front property was muddy, debris from the flowing water piled up on the bank and the water destroyed one person’s floating dock.
One part-time resident told ABC 17 the Osage River flooded the neighborhood two years ago but this week was the worst she has ever seen.
“Sunday night when I went to bed there was 2 inches of water in the basement, and then that morning, Monday morning, we had 6 inches, and then from then until Wednesday we got up to 4 feet in the basement,” said Carol Distler.
There’s no word yet on damage estimates for the area.
