Many roads still under water in Osage Co.
Several roads in Osage and Gasconade counties are still under water due to flooding rain over the weekend and Monday.
Highway 50 East at the Gasconade River near Mt. Sterling is still closed as of Wednesday afternoon due to high water over the road.
Highway 89 South at Pointer’s Creek is still closed near Highway E.
Residents in the area told ABC 17 News they are used to flooding in the area but have never seen it quite this bad.
“I’ve not been able to get to work because my office is on the other side of the river and I’m kind of stuck over here. It’s a little hard to do business when you’re on one side of the river and your office is on the other. We have cattle aross the river and we’re about not getting over there to tend to them,” said local veterinarian Sarah Schmidt.
One MoDOT employee said they could be out there for several days to wait for flooding to go down and then repair the highway.
Schmidt said she thinks a damaged road is a real possibility.
“I just keep watching it every day and every little bit I check and see what’s going on with the roads. That’s a real concern,” she said. “The road being damaged and still not being able to get across. We could go around, but if those roads are damaged it’s going to be difficult.”
MoDOT workers are on hand off of Highway 50 to direct traffic away from flooding.
